MISS Foundation hosts National Children’s Memorial Day
Candle lighting service at Unity of Phoenix, 6:30 pm
December 9, 2007, PHOENIX – MISS Foundation invites members of the community who have lost a child at any age and from any cause to join in a candlelight vigil held at Unity of Phoenix 1500 E. Greenway Parkway on, December 9, 2007, sponsored by the MISS Foundation. The event is free to anyone who has experienced the death of a child. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. and features parent speakers, singers and a choir.
On the second Sunday of each December, families across the world light a candle
at 7:00 p.m. in remembrance of their child. This ritual, which started as a simple tradition to honor and remember became formally recognized as a national holiday in the United
States was in 1999.
Nationwide, about 30,000 babies are born still, and more than 20,000 babies die
within the first year of life in the United States. At any age tens of thousands of children die from disease, homicide, motor vehicle accidents, drowning, undeterminable causes, and suicide. These statistics leave families in horror. The MISS Foundation is committed
to providing free counseling and ongoing support for the survivors.
