2007-10-27 Successful fundraiser! Jump-a-thon/Luau
This is our first year at Borton and I am impressed with many aspects of the school, including the curriculum, the way learners at all levels are challenged, and the focus on reading. The big fundraiser for the school is a jump-a-thon, in which all the kids are encouraged to participate and raise money for the school by jumping rope. From the start of the year music is played and jumpropes are available before school, and by the time of the jump-a-thon most of the K-2 students can do at least a few jumps. My kids had a blast and other moms commented on how it was helping their kids get exercise. The Luau itself was well done with an excellent Hawaiian dance troupe that did some authentic dances and explained a bit about Hawaii's history.
Other schools looking for a fundraiser, if you have a big lower elementary group consider some variation of this - the kids get to feel like they are the ones raising the money and all have fun. Will try and get a list of the music played - Chuck Berry, Beach Boys were a few I recognized - they get the kids moving and the lyrics aren't bad. " --guest
