TUSD, the Harcourt reading method and "No Child Left Behind"

I've heard that TUSD schools are being forced to use the Harcourt reading method.  From what I understand, this method is scripted, stifles teacher creativity and also prevents flexibility in teaching students with different learning modalities.  Has anyone else heard about this?

It comes from the 'No Child Left Behind' act requiring a "scientifically based"  method, which means one with the funds to have huge studies done.  Wouldn't it make more sense to have a variety of methods available and let the children and parents choose one that works for them?

You are correct.  You're dealing with TUSD and the likes of Joel T. Ireland and Alex Rodriguez heading The Governing Board.  In other words and IMHO, "The blind leading the blind." There isn't a whole lot in TUSD that makes much sense these days.  Fortunately, the countdown to Roger Pfeuffer's retirement has begun!" --guest
