Do we care about Democracy in Burma?

If we are really in Iraq because we want to support democracy, why aren't we doing more for the protesters who are laying down their lives for democracy in Burma?   We are in Iraq where the majority of the population wants us to leave, and where we went in at a time when no Iraqis were particularly resisting or opposing their government.   If we are so in favor of democracy, it would seem the time to intervene is when the people rise up.  So why are we waiting for China to 'influence' the Burma (Myanmar) dictators?  If the administration wants people to believe that is was not oil after all, then they must do something to support the protesters now."

So, what can we do about it?  Is it already too late?

There is a global day of action coming up on Oct 6.

From the uscampaignforburma site:

China is paralyzing UN Security Council action on Burma. They are the main economic, military, and political supporters of the military junta. For fifteen years China has refused to press its closest ally to allow its people human rights, and used its veto power to block the UN Security Council from acting. As a result, the UN is making the same mistakes it made on Darfur and Rwanda. We are calling on people of conscience throughout the world to boycott the 2008 Chinese Olympics, join our efforts. --gv
