*Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. *

-Barack Obama

Every time our nation faces crisis, our national experience has shown Americans rise to the challenge. While government has an important role to play in helping rekindle our economy and addressing the problems of a distressed nation, President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden believes each of us, as Americans, have a responsibility to do what we can for our communities and fellow citizens. We are one nation.

In 1994, Congress declared the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday a day of
community service to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others. As a tribute to his legacy and the needs of our nation, the
President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden have
launched a national organizing effort on the eve of their Inauguration to
engage Americans in service

*-Excerpt from Presidential Inaugural Committee letter announcing National
Day of Community Service*

All over Southern Arizona, communities have stepped up to the call and on
the weekend of Martin Luther King Day, will be hosting community service
events.

Below are some of the many events that will be taking place in the Tucson
area. To participate in the event just click on the link below the event and
RSVP.   It's that simple! We need volunteers to RSVP to do everything from
the simple task of bringing a box of food to a drop location for the Food
Bank to more involved tasks like on-site gathering and organizing. There is something for everyone!

NOTE: Due to the current state of the economy, among many other factors, *The
Community Food Bank *has faced an unprecedented increase of families in need of assistance. So much so that they are now to the point that they have had to limit the amount of food each family may receive to 1 box of food per month. That is why many of the events are centered on item and monetary
donations to the Community Food Bank. We as a community must work together
to keep this essential organization afloat.
