Comments, Notes and News:
Quality of care: Excellent. Nursing staff is responsive and quick to come and assist for any of the various reasons the automatic equipment starts beeping (IV drip ran out; line bent; pulse monitor detached...) Doctors come on rounds early in the morning and answer questions in detail.
Child-friendliness: Yep. Unlimited family visits 24 hrs a day (they have a visitors' couch that folds out into a bed). I found some of the nurses' hokey bedside manners a little annoying, but I think it is genuinely reassuring during painful procedures, and they clearly know what they are doing and take medical procedures extremely seriously while talking like they are entertainers at a birthday party. They are also very good at what the signs around the building call 'painless pokes' - the CAT scan guy was not so much, but the pediatric nurses were very gentle and careful with the necessary needles.
Overall experience: Impressive - high availability of quality nurses, attractive kid-friendly renovations, low cost and decent cafeteria food, 24-hr room service, dvd library, immediate availability of labs/CAT scan results on CD. My overall impression was very positive. I hope we don't ever need to go back, but this is where I want to be if any of my kids needs a hospital.
