2009-10-12 Hertz Tucson Airport rip-off
Be aware if you rent from Hertz at the Tucson Airport that they will add a refueling charge to your bill whether you fill the tank or not. It has happened to me on the last two rentals (two weeks apart in Sept/Oct 2009).
I filled the tank on each rental at the gas station on the corner of S. Tucson and Valencia (about 1 mile to airport and closest station there is). Each time, they tacked on a $18+ refueling charge for driving about 60 miles total on each rental. Both times I a) told the attendant I had filled the tank, or b) marked the "I bought gas" box and noted the tank was full (the gage also showed a full tank).
I believe at Tucson the 'standard' refueling rate (if you don't refill it yourself) is around $8 per gallon.
If you feel you MUST rent from Hertz, ask for a printed receipt when you return your car and CHECK IT for a bogus fuel charge. I'm guessing the odds are you may find the bogus fuel charge too. --guest
