2009-03-22 Horrible Service - Sketchy Owner - Nice Wood
My husband and I ordered wood flooring for our three bedrooms.  We used SCS Tile, as they seemed to have a great price for great quality flooring.  After receiving an estimate by the owner Khalid, he told us we could call in the order the next morning at the store.  However, after a solid week of trying to get in touch with ANYONE, over the phone or in person (there's only one person on duty at the store at any given time) we were finally able to put money down and place the order.  The manager, Mellissa, called Khalid for the dimensions to order, and explained that it would take about 7-10 days for the wood to come in. On the 14th day (and a few phone calls wondering where the wood was) we got a knock at the door at 8:30pm on a Friday night, and it was Khalid with 10 boxes of wood, which seemed like a small amount for three bedrooms.  There was also no moulding for the surrounding walls, or the doorways.  When we questioned him, he got all flustered, and spent 1/2 hour doing calculations, talking on the phone, and blaming Mellissa for the mistake.  (Come to find, it was all his fault, because he told Melissa the wrong order amount).  So, we gave him further down payment, to which we did not receive a receipt.  We had to go to the store the next morning, talk to Melissa to make sure that the order was going to go in, to get the installation scheduled, and to get our receipt, which Khalid faxed a copy of to Melissa to give to us.  Again, we were told it would take 7-10 days for the remaining order.  In the meantime, we needed to get the floor installed.  Khalid told us the installers could start that Thursday, but now we know he said it to just to appease us (I had a day off work).  Instead they came on Friday, and could not finish because we didn't have the moulding.  The next morning (Saturday at 7:30am), with no notice, the installers arrived with SOME moulding, but not enough to finish the room.  The installer also explained that the doorway moulding that Khalid ordered, was not the right moulding, and that he would have to reorder.  Two weeks later, we called to ask where the heck the wood was again, and Khalid explained that it had all come in, except for the door moulding, which he had to reorder for a second time, as he still ordered incorrectly. A week and a half later, all of the wood was in, and got installed. (A total of 8 weeks since the day of the original estimate).
We asked for the maintenence instructions and the warranty, but Khalid said it didn't have one (although he had previously told us it did).  I went online, and found that indeed there was a 25yr warranty, and the care instructions.

We will not deal with SCS Tile again, unless the floor that was put down has problems.  It's not worth the $2/ft to deal with Khalid.  There were too many lies and stretching of the truth from him.  He will say whatever he can to sell you the wood, but offers HORRIBLE customer service. Choose Lowes/Home Depot if you must save money. --guest

2009-02-16 Outrageous restocking fee no

This company charges a 35% restocking fee, and we were not told about this at the time of purchase.  We got a good price on the tile, but believe that the salesperson should have told us up front about the restocking fee.  After getting the tile home, we discovered that one box of tile was the wrong brand, and the salesperson still wants to charge us a restocking fee, instead of giving us full credit for the wrong tile." --guest
