Notes about Community Food Bank Needs Help

Dear Everyone,
Yesterday, at the monthly staff meeting, I learned that the Food Bank
is gearing up to fill and distribute 50,000 food boxes during the
upcoming holidays for families in need in Southern Arizona! At the same
time, we have been way over budget for food purchasing every month since
our fiscal year began July 1st.
So.... consider this an urgent request to see whether you, and any
group or congregation you are a part of, would consider organizing a
short-term food drive over the next couple of months. It's very easy to
do (check the website www.communityfoodbank.org, and check on "donate
food" for easy instructions). We can provide you with collection boxes
and posters, and if you collect too much to bring in yourself, we would
be happy to arrange for a pick up. It doesn't have to be a BIG effort,
but as you can imagine, EVERY CAN HELPS! We are especially in need of
canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc), canned vegetables, canned soup,
cereal and peanut butter.
Over the past six months, the number of people coming to us, or one of
the many food pantries we supply, and asking for a food box has been
steadily rising. Now, we are distributing, on average, 28% more food
boxes each month than we were last year. Holiday is crunch time and we
can't do it without you.
Thank you very much for considering this request, and don't hesitate to
call with any questions.
Kitty
PS A fun way to collect food would be to have your group join a team
in the Food Bank's 3rd Annual Holiday Food Harvest Tournament (Nov. 14 -
Jan. 14). It is a friendly competition to see which team can bring in
the most pounds of canned vegetables or money during the two month
period. Email me back for details!
PPS If you, and your group/congregation are already involved in a food
drive, consider this a humongous THANK YOU!
