RINCON CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST TO HOST FAIR TRADE FAIR Support Fair Trade, Eco-Justice, Local Talent —and Finish Holiday Shopping, Too.
Times are tough—Tucson businesses are struggling, local restaurants are closing, our income is going down and the cost of living is going up. And it’s even worse down south, as witnessed by massive illegal immigration in the worst weather Southern Arizona can offer. But how can one person make a difference? Rincon Church is taking a step in the right direction by hosting a Fair Trade Fair on Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 8 am until 1 pm.
“Fair Trade” generally refers to paying fair value for goods made or grown in poorer countries, helping those who labor for less stay in their homes by earning a living wage. Rincon has expanded that concept to include our homegrown businesses, artists and musicians. Tucson is rich in local talent—let’s put our money where our mouths are and support it.
Inspired by Rincon’s Justice & Witness partner, Cafe Justo—a cooperative that grows, harvests, roasts and packages pure, organic Arabica coffee in Mexico (www.justcoffee.org), the Fair will also showcase locally raised food, sustainable building and energy ideas, green gardening, wise water use, a local Artist’s Row, and a stage showcasing live, local musicians.
Rincon Congregational UCC is a welcoming and progressive Christian community that believes in a God who is more about grace than judgment.
