State Republicans, meanwhile, await Janet Napolitano's plans. If she joins Obama's administration as U.S. Attorney General, Jan Brewer moves from the Secretary of State's office to the governor's office. And that would be conservative Nirvana and Democratic armageddon. Brewer would join, and not counter, a conservative Legislature's efforts to gut programs faster rate than any time in the state's history. It would be a cutlust not even seen during the days of Fife Symington and Mark Killian because an ever-growing budget deficit could provide legitimate cover to scale back what the state actually does – just as conservatives believe should be done.

Registration booklets for Tucson’s largest organized senior activity—the 25th Annual Senior Olympic Festival to be held Jan. 23-Feb. 1—are now available citywide.
Registration continues until Jan. 2. Participation is open to anyone who will be 50 years of age before Dec. 31, 2009. The 10-day “Celebration of Fitness” features nearly 100 events to promote health, fitness and an active lifestyle among seniors.
Opening ceremonies, including a senior expo and parade of athletes, will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at Reid Park’s DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, 22nd and Country Club.
Competitive events run daily from Jan 23-Feb. 2 at various venues throughout the City.
