Back in April we took the kids to Sabino Canyon, rode the tram and played in the water. Where else can you find a sandy beach by clean running water in Tucson?

Back in April we took the kids to Sabino Canyon, rode the tram and played in the water. Where else can you find a sandy beach by clean running water in Tucson?

Although the sign at the entrance on Aug 4 read 'Danger - high water', we found a few stretches of river just right for playing and swimming in. Between stops 4 and 5 there is a small side channel that even the littlest river hiker can wade thru, and just upstream of that is a wide section with a small rapids which provided excellent fun for young swimmers. Adult lifeguard is still a must, but we found it possible to have plenty of safe creek splashfun this week.

If planning a ride up, don't forget to bring cash for the tram - they don't take plastic!
