Sentinal Ridge Trail

Short, scenic hike within walking distance of downtown.  Parking lot is off Congress about a mile W of I-10, just before it curves to the north.  After switchbacking around up to the ridge, an uncrowded area with great views of the city, you have to walk along the road for a short distance to reach A Mountain (Sentinal peak).

Just watch out for rattlesnakes on the grassy sections - a couple years ago we met with an angry diamondback on this trail!  (annoyed at a mountain biker who passed right before we did)
The sign says it all... -- Views of the city start very close to the start of the hike --gv Pencil Cholla bears tiny fruits in October --gv Creosote bush seeds seem to hang on for months - finally these are about to fall --gv I don't think Sentinal Ridge is part of Saguaro Natl. Monument West, but the Tumacacori side has some thick stands. --gv Young saguaros often grow in the shelter of a 'nursemaid' tree such as a palo verde or mesquite - this specimen seems to have grown up inside the branches of an octotillo! --gv dense stand of saguaros next to Sentinal Ridge --gv
