Dr Richard Carmona - opinion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Car

Betts Putnam-Hidalgo is running for TUSD school board in November - and here's why:

"I'm running because I have a child in the district and I think the school board could do a lot better in the aspect of public participation."

"The upcoming budget crisis is a real issue for me, and I think they should be having brainstorming forums all over town.  They've looked all over the United States for input but they haven't looked to us, their stakeholders - to use the language that they like to use.  "

"I just think that the board needs to be more effective at setting policy.  And that means that they need to be members of the school community.  Have kids, be teachers, or have some other reason to spend enough time at the school site to know what goes on there. "

2012-10-21 Dr Richard Carmona - opinion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Carmona
Dr Carmona is not your typical Democratic party candidate.  He served under President Bush and was recruited by the republican party to run for office in 2006 (he declined).  He was also a deputy sheriff and was decorated with the Medal of Honor for shooting and killing a man who was threatening others, shot at Carmona and who turned out to have killed his own father that morning.

Carmona's experiences in Bush's administration might have something to do with his now running as a Democrat - he felt that the Bush administration tried to water down his report on the dangers of secondhand smoke : ""Anything that doesn't fit into the political appointees' ideological, theological or political agenda is ignored, marginalized or simply buried."

2010-09-23 Goddard Surges in Governor's Race
http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/PoliticalInsider/99139
Terry Goddard has jumped to within single digits of incumbent Jan Brewer in the Project New West poll taken Sept 13-16.

"It's encouraging because it shows tremendous movement, and it shows that voters are listening and responding to the real story of how badly Jan Brewer has failed this state," said Attorney General Goddard.

Quotes from a Goddard press release, data verified on other news outlets as well.

"Jan Brewer has failed to bring new jobs or new business to Arizona. She has failed us on education - and is willing to cut even more from the education budget. Times are bad, and voters are recognizing that Jan Brewer is not the kind of decisive leader we need, to lead us out of this mess," added Goddard.

The huge gain of more than a dozen points since a Rasmussen poll on ...read more...

Dems will have to dig in and work hard to catch up in the polls, though - Brewer had a near 20-point lead right after the nominations.  Have not seen another poll since the debate.

2010-09-18 Raul on the right side
http://www.grijalvaforcongress.com/
I am so thankful that Raul Grijalva is my congressman.  He is thoughtful and hardworking, and has been on the right side of more than just Latino issues.  Raul co-sponsored the 'no blood rubies' law to prevent the Myanmar government from selling gems in the US.  He came out on the side of Net Neutrality, the principle that your Internet carrier should not be poking around in your network traffic to decide which packets to route faster based on who is paying them the most.   He has consistently come out for openness in government and has disclosed all his earmarks.

And when an Iraq war veteran I knew was in trouble, Raul's staff were accessible to go to bat for him (a complicated case of military health insurance coverage when an accident occurred off duty; the guy is fine now)
