Passive Graduations

Just attended a high school graduation and it struck me what a passive role is played by the graduates.  Here we are telling them they are adults an in charge of their own destiny, yet their entire role in their own graduation is to sit quietly and listen to long-wnided speeches (except for the Valedictorian, who also gets to speak).   Why not let a committee of seniors choreograph their own graduation, with a faculty advisor?  I'm sure it would be much more interesting, and would be a chance for seniors to showcase their talents for organization and creativity!
