From the Animal FairDid you know Anatolian Shepards used to be left all summer to guard sheep herds, without any person in attendance? (what did they eat?) Or that Tucson is home to over 10 different breed-specific rescue societies, not to mention a Pig Sanctuary in Marana, and even a chapter of Eadie's House dedicated to preventing rodent abuse? We attended the Arizona Animal Fair in Reid Park last Saturday (2/17/07) and had an entertaining and educational time. Lots of Tucsonans brought their dogs, plus many beautiful rescued animals were out walking with 'Adopt Me' scarves. Then there were the minature horses pulling two-wheeled carts that reminded me of wheelchairs - maybe there's a market for handi-horses somewhere - plus ferrets, cats, snakes, pigs, a burro, therapy ponies, rehab'd pigeons, ducks and geese needing homes - did I miss anything? I'm going to try and enter the individual URLs of the rescue societies here. "" |
