Golda's worldview

    my map

political: "Its the People, stupid..."

relationships: a man page
capability for cooperative behaviour
communication (nearly impossible but best thing)
without control
humor and truth

people: value equations
self-esteem sources
rational in their own context; have reasons
rationalize; have unintegrated parts
powerful intuitive/common sense evaluation of the world
need respect
bad vs good - everyone thinks they are good/right

self:   own value equation
own sources of self-esteem
what am i - ideas, 'memes'
development of integrated framework
importance of self-direction
* act on your own judgement
how certain am i of own ideas? (not, but still best I have)
how to evaluate, integrate new information
test, make predictions - as physics
build something that works
analogous models, make mappings
levels of abstraction
evolution of language, importance of definitions
self-modifying system

ideas/perspectives:
math as metaphor, and metaphor as math
mappings of mindspace - many have validity, are useful
like different languages, can represent same ideas in different ways
(and may not realize it if terms are so different)
of course can be fundamentally different also, can see this most clearly when translated into same terms
humans have power of analogy, which is intuitive higher mathematics

ideas growing up:
human liberty,
opportunity to reach potentials
freedom from suffering (animals too)
learning (what's important if there is no g_d)
accepting the fact of death; keeping in perspective

do whats right, learn, enjoy life

howto:  relate to the world
strongly
without harm
be responsible for choosing own actions and predicting others

when world/others are negative/controlling
negotiate
don't give out information if others may be in bad faith
find the big sticks and talk softly
avoid, let go if possible
stand up for right, children
at least speak up
* power of speaking the truth
fight hard if you do
no warning
go public

work
modular way
step by step
'ice cream scoop & hamburger mountain' analogy
concrete, test & reality check

business
pick a model where people are important
stay independent

processes
avoid bullshit
choose how to spend time of life (say no)
prioritize
time slice
interrupt-driven, polling
just do it
don't be afraid to start, and don't wait until you 'feel like it'
minimize overhead
take action right away whenever possible
'not great but Wednesday', then iterate (most things)
keep putting 1 foot in front of the other
build in fault-tolerance
keep long-term in mind but act in short term
* modular design allows small steps to be useful
simple is robust
use tools but do not be constrained by them
use thinking shortcuts/dogmas for efficiency but recognize them as such
* be able to think & operate at different levels of abstraction
about efficiency & redundancy
skills & timing

parenting
with respect for the child as a person
encouraging no
explaining reasons
creating an environment
the story so far

survival and safety
aware of your surroundings
don't panic
be prepared

stray thoughts:

why write?

writing & computers as mind extensions

infospace
mapping
language & analogy as shapes of functions
music as language
mathematical images of music...graph the chords

a meditation: please give me...
clear mind
kind heart
strong will
calm soul
sense of humor

enjoy: morning light, nature, good conversation, making things work, my daughter
poems here and there
short stories
solutions unlimited

-------------
The above was mostly written in 2001, as an initial example. I wanted to do this project, the worldview thing, with my aunt Ethel who was an anthropologist by training, and start by collecting views of close friends and family.
