A Noshing reader reported that the Daybreak Café at 8270 S. Houghton Road in Santa Rita Ranch has closed; its phone line seems to have been disconnected.

Music With a Smile | Music Feature | Tucson Weekly
Being situated within a Safeway shopping plaza on Tucson's far southeast side is an odd thing in and of itself. For its warm-weather outdoor shows, Javalinas will actually encourage patrons to set up lawn chairs within its portion of the parking lot. Got that? People in lawn chairs sitting in a strip-mall parking lot listening to music. Add to this mix the notion that some people consider Javalinas to be halfway to New Mexico, and it's a wonder anybody who doesn't live in Rita Ranch ever gets out there to see music.

Orient in the Southeast Kyo Sushi/Chinese Combo: fine if near Rita Ranch; not worth the drive if anywhere else
Pluses: Décor touches; Close for Rita Ranch-area folks
Minuses: Unless you're in Rita Ranch, there's probably equally good or better Asian food closer to you
For Rita Ranch-area residents and employees, the presence of Asian-restaurant duo Kyo Sushi/Chinese Combo must be nice: These eateries serve moderately priced, acceptable sushi, teriyaki and Chinese food that's close by.
But for residents of the greater Tucson metroplex who don't get to Rita Ranch much, these restaurants aren't really worth noting, because there are equally good or better Asian restaurants around town.
The next time I find myself in Rita Ranch with a need to eat, I won't hesitate to return to Kyo Sushi/Chinese Combo. But I can't say I'll be particularly excited about it.

Political Puppet Theatre | Feature | Tucson Weekly
Temps haven't yet climbed into triple digits on this Saturday morning in late August, but it feels mighty hot to Tim Bee's family as they prepare to walk a few streets in Rita Ranch.
Bee moves from door to door, briefly chatting with the residents. Most say they're supportive, but they don't show much interest in talking about politics. One woman says she wishes the city's bus system would come out to Rita Ranch, while another is so excited by Bee that she wants to have her picture taken with him.
